This is part two of our series on Ridgewood Home Styles.
The Colonial Home is probably the most common, and most sought after, type of home here in Ridgewood. However, there are many different types of Colonial Homes and this is where the confusion begins. To start, here are some very broad characteristics that apply to most Ridgewood Colonial Homes.
Basic Characteristics of Ridgewood Colonial Homes
- All/most bedrooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floors.
- The Architecture is very symmetrical and square.
- Homes usually include double hung windows with shutters or decorative trim.
- Front door is often framed with a portico, pediment and/or pillars.
- Doors are often paneled and flanked by sidelights.
As mentioned above, there are many different types of Colonial Homes here in Ridgewood. In fact, there are too many to be able to go into all of them in detail here. I have listed the most popular colonial style homes that can be found here in Ridgewood along with a link to more detailed information about each particular style. We will cover each style, in more depth, in subsequent posts.
